Cheese & Nut Canapés

Cheese & Nut Canapés | Jain-Friendly Paryushan Treat

Whenever I host friends or family, I love serving little bites that are fancy and also don’t keep me in the kitchen for hours. That’s exactly why these Cheese & Nut Canapés are one of my go-to starters. The crisp crackers, smooth creamy cheese, and the crunch of almonds and cashews come together so beautifully that they feel gourmet, yet they take just minutes to prepare. It’s the kind of recipe that always gets people asking, “How did you make these?” — and I secretly smile because it’s really that simple!

With Paryushan around the corner, this becomes one of the best starters to have on the table. The meals during this time are usually light and comforting, but sometimes we crave something festive and a little fancy, without compromising on our Jain values.

That’s where these Cheese & Nut Canapés truly shine. A quick, no-cook, crunchy starter that feels indulgent, yet is completely Paryushan-friendly.

Why This Recipe Works for Paryushan

  • No onion, garlic, or root vegetables: which aligns with Jain dietary practices during this time.
  • Nutritious & light: using protein-rich nuts and calcium-packed cheese or hung curd.
  • Easy to prepare: you can make it in minutes, perfect for when you’re hosting or simply want a special treat.

Personal Tip

When I make these during Paryushan, I like to use millet crackers instead of wheat, they add a wholesome, nutty flavor and also bring in the goodness of ancient grains. Sometimes, I even add a touch of rock salt for extra balance.
